ifi: Six Malayalam films in Ifi’s Top 10 Indian Films list | Kochi News

Kochi: Mollywood has reason to rejoice as six of the top ten Indian films selected by the Indian Film Institute (IFI) are from Malayalam.
On Monday, IFI, a non-governmental organization promoting Indian films, announced the results of its survey to judge the best Indian cinema of 2021.
For his performance in the movie ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’, Nimisha Sajayan shared the Best Actor (Female) title with Konkona Sen Sharma for his role in the movie ‘Geeli Pucchi’. Tapsee Pannu was voted second best actress for her performance in “Haseen Dilruba”.
Fahad Fasil won Best Actor (Male) for his performance in ‘Malik’, and Tovino Thomas shared second best actor (Male) spot for ‘Minnal Murali’ with Vicky Kaushal who played the title role in the Hindi film ‘Sardar Udham’.
‘Minnal Murali’ directed by Basil Joseph, ‘Joji’ directed by Dileesh Pothan, ‘Nayattu’ directed by Martin Prakkat, ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ directed by Jeo Baby, ‘Kala’ directed by Rohit VS and ‘Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam’ directed by Senna Hegde were the Malayalam films that managed to find a place in the list of top ten Indian films. The films have been recommended by seven prominent Indian film critics. The Disciple (Marathi) directed by Chaitanya Tamhane, takes the top spot.
According to IFI authorities, in the survey, IFI asked seven prominent film critics to recommend their picks of the top 10 Indian films and top three performances by a male and female actor in order of preference. The picks listed by reviewers were rated by IFI. Critics who took part in the survey included Baradwaj Rangan (Chennai), Sachin Chate (Goa), Siraj Syed (Mumbai), Chandi Mukherjee (Kolkata), Murtaza Ali Khan (New Delhi), Christopher Dalton (Kerala) and Utpal Datta (Guwahati).
Renowned film critic C Venkiteswaran has said that as a small industry, Malayalam movies have managed to harness the potential of OTT platforms in the post-Covid scenario. “In Malayalam, the main actors are ready to partner with the smaller films, which are thematically diverse. Such films have garnered national attention,” he said.
