Ayodhya: Extending its support to Karnataka student Bibi Muskan Khan, who rose to prominence during the anti-hijab protests, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) said the hijab or “pardah” is also part of Indian culture.
Supporting Bibi Muskan’s call to wear a hijab, the Muslim branch of the RSS, Muslim Rashtriya Manch, condemned the saffron frenzy surrounding her.
“She is a daughter and a sister of our community. We support her in this hour of crisis,” IANS quoted Muslim Rashtriya Manch Avadh Prant Sanchalak Anil Singh as saying.

Stating that “the behavior of boys wearing saffron scarves and chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ is unacceptable”, he said they have “vilified Hindu culture”.
“Hijab or purdah is also a part of Indian culture and Hindu women too practice purdah as per their choice. And the same condition applies to Bibi Muskan,” he added.
Calling on “members of the Hindu community to accept Muslims as their brothers”, the leader of the RSS: “Our sarsangh chalak said, Muslims are our brothers and the DNA of the two communities is the same”.
Muslim Rashtriya Manch, in a statement, also echoed similar sentiments saying that Hindu culture teaches respect for women and that those who chanted “Jai Shri Ram” and tried to terrorize the girl were wrong.
“The girl has the constitutional freedom to wear a hijab,” said the statement released by Muslim Rashtriya Manch.
“If she violated the campus dress code, the institution has the right to take action against her,” the statement added.
Earlier Tuesday, the sophomore BCom student was heckled by a group of saffron stole-wearing students for entering college with the burqa and hijab.
When they started brandishing ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans, she retorted by shouting ‘Allah-hu-Akbar’.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, with many praising the girl’s courage for bravely facing the situation.
