Tanzanian social media influencer who dances to Indian songs attacked

Tanzanian internet sensation Kili Paul has been injured in a knife attack.

He shared a video on his Instagram Stories, which shows him lying on a stretcher with a bandage on his thumb and injury marks on his legs.

“People want me down, but God will always pick me up. Pray for me,” he said on his Instagram story.

The Tanzanian content creator is known for his lip-syncing and dancing videos to Hindi movie songs with his sister Neema.

He was honored by the Indian High Commission in Tanzania in February this year. He had posted about the award on his Instagram handle.

Paul was also congratulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech at Mann Ki Baat in February. Talking about the work of Kili Paul and his sister, PM Modi called on young people to make videos of famous Indian songs in different languages. He said this will not only make them popular but will also showcase the country’s diversity to the new generation.

Paul thanked Prime Minister Modi, saying he is “blown away”.

The artist shot to fame after syncing Siddharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani-starter “Shershaah” song “Raatan Lambiyan” with his sister Neena Paul went viral on social media last year.

Since then, he has posted numerous videos where he is seen lip-synching to popular Hindi movie songs, which has helped him amass 3.6 million followers on Instagram.

He is followed by popular Indian cinema celebrities including Ayushmann Khurrana, Gul Panag and Richa Chadha.
